Vernon Fernando and his musical group, The Strangers, have entertained audiences in Southern California at major community events and dances. He is sensitive to the whishes of his audience and keep them enthralled throughout an evening, transporting them a myriad musical path of classical, romantic, Singhala pop and baila. Vernon hails from a family with deep roots in music. His father and grandfather were both musicians and Vernon cannot remember a time when he was not immersed in making music. Like his father & Grandfather, Vernon began his musical career at an early age, played for church audiences. He received a formal education in music, and passed the London Trinity Collage music examinations. Before moving to the United States, Vernon played at many renowned hotels, including Hotel Oberoi in Colombo. Later he joined the Sri Lankan Army band. He had the rare opportunity of playing in the Army Band when it welcomed Queen Elizabeth II on an official state visit to Sri Lanka in 1979. Vernon has accompanied such renowned singers as Sunil Perera, Clarence Wijewardena, P.L.A. Somapala, Chitra Somapala, Latha Walpola, Priyantha Fernando, Gunadasa Kapuge, Anasli Malewana & various other artists in United States & Sri Lanka. **** This is Vernon's 1st album as you guessed it, named "Golden Memories" with music arrangements by Mahinda bandara & Vernon himself with 16 original tracks.
